Clinical Analysis of Resected Colorectal Cancer

Abstract
A clinical and statistical study were made on 122 cases of resected colorectal cancer patients who were admitted and operated at the Department of Surgery, Chung-Ang University Hospital from January 1, 1984 to December 31, 1987.
@ES The results were as follows :
@EN 1) The sex ratio between male and female was 1.4 : 1 and age incidence was most prevalent in the 7th decade, comprising 29.5 of the cases.
2) The frequent symptoms and signs were bloody stool, abdominal pain, bowel habit change and weight loss in decreasing order.
3) The location of tumor was rectum(43.4%): ascending colon(27.9%) sigmoid colon(23%): descending colon(5.7%).
4) The preoperative CEA (carcinoembryonic antigen) level was less than 2.4 ng/ml in 27.9% of patients; 45.1% between 2.5 ng/ml and 10 ng/ml: 27% more than 10 ng/ ml.
5) Well differentiated adenocarcinoma was found in 54.1% of the colorectal carcinoma, moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma in 29.5%, poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma in 8.2% and mucinous adenocarcinoma in 7.4%.
6) The stage of disease at the initial resection 4(3.3%) were A, 15(2.3%)B1, 52(42.6%)B2, 11(9%)C1. 40(32.8%)C2.
7) The postoperative complications were occured in 39 cases(32%): wound infection(35.9%), adhesion(12.8%), pulmonary complication(12.8%), urinary tract complication(12.8%), bleeding(7.7%), paralytic ileus(7.7%) and acute renal failure(5%).
8) According to cellular differentiation, the 3-year survival rates were 77.3% in well differentiated type, 88.9% in moderately differentiated type, 60% in poorly differentiated type and 44.4% in mucinous adenocarcinoma.
9) according to number of metastatic lymph node, the 3-year survival rates were 80% in no metastasis group, 75% in 1~3 metastatic nodes and 66.7% in more than 4 metastatic nodes.
